After several previous schemes with other designers, Clive Miller Planning (Planning Consultants) approached us to get a fresh look at the development proposals. Although the overall scale of the development provided a good starting point it was felt very early on that the scheme needed to be better integrated within the landscape and show some range of character throughout the built forms.
The site is currently made up of a mixture of steel frame barns, some old and some new with block work milking parlour and workshops on a large concreted site. The farm was not being used to its full capacity and large steel barn on the opposite side of the access track was providing enough space for the enterprise to continue, leaving the rest of site open for development.
Our proposal was for a modern farmyard scheme with a principle farmhouse, substantial masonry barn style dwelling and two further contemporary dwelling units set within a horseshoe shaped site plan. With varying materials and scales and extensive landscaping the design represents an overall improvement to the surrounding area.
We worked with client and planning consultant to develop a design through consultations with the local parish and planners. Planning was granted by the Planning Committee in December 2017 with unanimous support. The design received over 20 letters of support from local residents.
